The launching conference for the upcoming International Wine Forum was carried out at the facilities of Bodegas de Argentina. The forum will be conducted on September 3rd in the Ángel Bustelo Auditorium, where international experts will analyze the impact of the world crisis on the wine industry.

The 4th International Wine Forum will be carried out on September 3rd, 2008 in Mendoza city. This gathering, a much expected event within the calendar of the industry’s executives, offers the chance of sharing strategies and debating policies to help improve long-term decision making by industry members and general leadership.

Representatives of the organizing committee, such as Juan José Canay -president of Bodegas de Argentina-, Javier Merino -Director of Área del Vino-, Susana Balbo and Juan Marcó, offered a press conference aimed at presenting the upcoming edition of the forum.

This new edition of the forum will focus on: the national and international context; the directions to which the wine business is heading; and the ways to be competitive in the world markets. These issues will be developed through the presentation of successful experiences and case studies.

The guiding subject of the forum was selected through surveys conducted last year at the end of the previous edition. Javier Merino commented that he believes “there is no better issue to be discussed and presented in an international forum. We are facing a moment characterized by deep changes in large markets, such as the US and Brazil, as well as by an internal crisis we are currently experiencing in Argentina.”

The president of Bodegas de Argentina, Juan José Canay, talked about the great professionalism of the lecturers that will participate in the forum. “Great world experts will provide information and orientation for businesspeople and industry professionals, endowing them with key tools for managing their businesses, in a changing global economic context.”

On the same line, Susana Balbo remarked the importance of US wine industry experts being present in Mendoza, lecturing about the perspectives for the market, which have changed in the past months, considering the significance that it represents for Argentinian wines.

Juan Marcó talked about the largest South American market. “Brazil represents a great market for Argentina. Consumption is still not that significant but we believe that this is going to be reverted,  as it has a great potential, so I think that it is good to have two representatives from that country, in order to have a deeper understanding of its customs, tastes, and, above all, of its dynamics.”

The Director of Área del Vino was also very enthusiastic about the presence of Marquis Carlos Falcó. “He has been a pioneer in the modernization of Spanish grape-growing and winemaking. In his lecture, he will share his experience about how to position a product of great competitiveness, such as wine, in international markets.”
