White wines Sauvignon Blanc
Description

Bodega Catena Zapata began to make Alamos in 1993 as a second label to Catena. Alamos is sourced from some of the Catena family's younger vineyards in the best areas of Mendoza's high altitude wine country. Yields are kept low and all our vineyards are hand harvested. Our goal is to be true to our “house” style of rich and concentrated wines that have distinct varietal character.

Harvest: This vineyard, the highest in all of Mendoza, was also characterized by an early than normal harvest. While late November precipitation refreshed the vines from the higher temperatures, the rest of December, January and February were very dry. The shock of nighttime low temperatures in February again quickened the ripening cycle, with the Malbec harvest beginning on March 16th, almost a month ahead of time. Additional Malbec was brought in on March 20th and April 2. This fruit shows very high levels of flavor concentration and excellent tannin quality. The Cabernet Sauvignon harvest began on April 2, about 2 weeks early. Additional lots were harvested on April 9.
Vineyards: Adrianna, Gualtallary Tupungato. 100 % Sauvignon Blanc.
Fermentation: Selected yeast, max temp. ferm. 15°C for 25 days.
Climate and soil: soil composed by 90% sand, 10% lime, 10 - 30% surface stones, top soil depth of 1 mt., sub soil  type round rocks, avg. temp in March:  16,5° C, thermal amplitude in March: 12,5° C.
Vinification process: Precision Viticulture encompasses the philosophy of vineyard management in which each vineyard lot, and even each vine, is treated individually by hand and through the use of the latest technology in order to maximize quality.

The 2007 Alamos Sauvignon Blanc reflects the character of its high altitude origins. With warm sunny days, and cool mountain nights, the Sauvignon Blanc grapes achieve a full, well balanced maturity while maintaining their natural acidity. The color is a light yellow with touches of green. The nose is intense with ripe grapefruit and citrus fruit aromas and delicate notes of freshly cut grass. The mouthfeel is clean and vibrant, with ripe fruit flavors, well balanced acidity and a bright, fresh finish.
